Kate Parsley is passionate about translating research into benefit for society. Kate has joined CDBB as maternity cover for the Head of Engagement on a secondment from her role as Impact Facilitator for the Bioscience Impact Team in the School of the Biological Sciences and the Research Operations Office at the University of Cambridge, she also managed a strategic partnership with a global company for the University’s Strategic Partnerships Office. Kate has a background in plant science and agriculture, with a degree in genetics from Newcastle University and a PhD studying the wheat genome from the University of Cambridge and Plant Breeding International. A significant period of lab-based research followed and led to a desire to actively support the translation of fundamental research into real-world benefit. Before joining the Bioscience Impact Team, Kate spent some time in industry supporting the development of NIAB Innovation Farm as an agricultural knowledge exchange hub, devising field and glasshouse exhibits and producing and delivering an events programme. As an Impact Facilitator, Kate managed the BBSRC Impact Acceleration Account – a funding scheme supporting academic and industry connections. Kate is responsible for leading the engagement workstream for the Centre for Digital Built Britain.
