Department of Engineering - West Cambridge

A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on infrastructure information management within the Centre for Digital Built Britain (CDBB). This will involve developing BIM/GIS models of selected structures and spaces, identifying data requirements for asset management, defining asset information models and integrating such data with the BIM models. The post holder will work with the University Estate Management, stakeholders and industry partners to understand their requirements, identify specific use cases, applications, and demonstrators, and develop generalizable tools and guidelines for asset information management.

The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

The key responsibilities and duties are to work with stakeholders to define use cases and applications, develop and integrate various models of the campus buildings and infrastructure, develop suitable models and approaches that align with use-case requirements and work with internal teams to develop and deploy demonstrators.

The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are to have, or be close to obtaining, a PhD in Engineering, Computer Science or a relevant discipline, with an expert background in data modelling, information background and BIM. Applicants should have an appreciation of the challenges in infrastructure asset management, and knowledge of infrastructure/asset management standards. Very good communication and writing skills are essential.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £26,715 - £30,942 Research Associate: £32,816 - £40,322

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 30 September 2022 in the first instance.
