Research background
Prior to Cambridge, Vladimir did a Msc in physics at the University of Namur (Belgium) where he started to work on low-cost optical system for the monitoring of precious manuscripts. He then pursues a doctoral degree at University College London in material science for art conservation. During this time, he developed more accessible imaging methodologies for the monitoring of painting collection managed by English Heritage as well as working on more comprehensive monitoring and data analysis of environmental condition in historical houses.

Research ambitions for CDBB
Digital twins need data to work properly. However current technologies either produce too much information, they are expensive to deploy and maintain or simply not cost-effective for stack holders. Computer vision techniques have many advantages as they are using cameras which can be found in smartphone, CCTV, drones etc.. In this project we aim to make a better use of the wide variety of such system to capture the full spectrum of event and properties of a real engineering structures such as structural component, physical dimension, resources, usage and environmental factors.
