Dr Jennifer Schooling receives New Year's Honour

DR JENNIFER SCHOOLING OBE, Chair of the Strategic Research Advisory Group at the Centre for Digital Built Britain (CDBB), Interim Academic Lead for the Core Innovation Hub of the Transforming Construction Alliance, and Director of the Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction at the University of Cambridge receives Order of the British Empire in New Year’s Honours 2019.

The Centre for Digital Built Britain is delighted that Dr Jennifer Schooling has been awarded the title of Officer of the British Empire for her services to engineering and digital construction.

Dr Jennifer Schooling is an internationally-recognised leader in developing 'smart' digital construction and infrastructure. In her role as Chair of the Strategic Research Advisory Group of CDBB, Dr Schooling oversees the identification and delivery of the Digital Built Britain research programme to develop world-leading UK capability in infrastructure and data management in the built environment, enhancing the performance of our built environment and the cities and communities it serves.

We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding contribution that our colleague Dr Schooling has made to British society. Her leadership has not only led to increased productivity in the delivery of better built assets, but also greater productivity in the provision of public services across the UK”, says Professor Andy Neely, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Enterprise and Business Relations and Director of the Centre for Digital Built Britain.

Dr Schooling has demonstrated a personal enthusiasm and commitment to developing the next generation of engineers, which goes way beyond her duties.

Her ability to drive developments from blue-sky research to industrial application has directly contributed to improved construction productivity, infrastructure designs which are focused on delivering better public services and creating an enhanced talent pool of urgently needed UK engineers (to which she is an exemplar role model). She has worked to encourage more women to enter engineering, creating a blog highlighting women in the sector and is profiled herself by the UoC, ICE & SCOR.

In her role at CDBB, Dr Schooling acts as Interim Academic Lead for the of Core Innovation Hub delivered by the Transforming Construction Alliance, a strategic consortium of partners from academia, industry and government.

In addition, Dr Jennifer Schooling is the Director of the Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction since April 2013. Jennifer has a PhD in Materials Science from the University of Cambridge.
