Biography

Dr Brilakis' research interests lie broadly in the field of construction engineering, but are primarily focused in construction automation and information technologies. This includes as-built BIM generation; sensing and data collection for civil infrastructure development; infrastructure computer vision and pattern recognition technologies for construction site multimedia data analysis, classification, retrieval, and processing; knowledge extraction and management; intelligent automation of construction tasks; infrastructure condition assessment, modelling, and sensing; integration of project information into visualization and simulation models; project control systems and field management technologies; and communication, collaboration and coordination technologies.

Brief Biography

Dr. Ioannis Brilakis is a Laing O'Rourke Reader of Construction Engineering at the Division of Civil Engineering of the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge. He completed his PhD in Civil Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign. He then worked as an Assistant Professor at the Departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (2005-2008) and Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta (2009-2012). He is a recipient of the 2016 ASCE Outstanding Reviewer Award, the 2013 ASCE Collingwood Prize, the 2012 Georgia Tech Outreach Award, the 2010 NSF CAREER award and the 2009 ASCE Associate Editor Award. Dr. Brilakis is an author of over 180 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, an Associate Editor of the Emerald Construction & Architecture Management, the Springer Computing for the Built Environment, the ASCE Computing in Civil Engineering, ASCE Construction Engineering and Management, SERSS Architecture and Civil Engineering, WAP Frontiers in Construction Engineering, SEPC Construction Engineering, Elsevier Automation in Construction, and Elsevier Advanced Engineering Informatics Journals, and a past-chair and founder of the ASCE TCCIT Data Sensing and Analysis Committee, and the TRB AFH10 (1) Information Systems in Construction Management Subcommittee.
