The goal of this project is to develop two separate current frameworks for practice, policy and future research under the umbrella theme of ancillary (additional) sensing for BIM. Ancillary sensing in the context of BIM concerns drawing new sources of useful information into common data environments used in the design, creation and management of the built environment physical assets.
Outcomes
This report highlights the intersection between architectural design research, broadly defined to include the physical space elements of organisational and commercial premises design, and sensor-enabled human behaviour research. We highlight the role that sensor-enabled human behaviour research can play in the creation of human-centred spaces to represent a data environment where human behaviour at individual and group levels is quantified and understood to inform the creation, design and operation of better physical spaces.

The frameworks can be used to help shape the purpose and function of supporting sensor technology for a digital built environment. Case studies demonstrating the use of the frameworks in situ would be beneficial.
