This network takes an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the state-of-the-art in use of modelling support for infrastructure planning decision making, both in industry and policy practice, and in the research community; needs of the practitioner community for research and innovation on methodology; the research communities which must be engaged to achieve this, and at a high level the methodologies which might have applied to the challenges elicited from the practitioner community.
Outcomes
This project highlights the need for a more nuanced understanding of project success and failure, as well as the need for two-way communication throughout decision processes in complex projects. Improvements in data availability and transparency are critical enablers and, above all, there is a pressing need to improve the quantification of factors that lead to success or failure of projects.
