Centre for Digital Built Britain completed its five-year mission and closed its doors at the end of September 2022

This website remains as a legacy of the achievements of our five-year foundational journey towards a digital built Britain

In common with previous roundtables, the prevailing view was that although there are some shining examples of good practice, there is still work to be done, particularly in the private sector. It was felt that the benefits of BIM throughout the lifecycle of an asset need to be more clearly articulated and its processes and language further simplified. More collaborative procurement models would help to unlock the benefits of BIM and standard (or ‘vanilla’) templates for BIM data deliverables would simplify the process and help with client adoption.

The participants sounded a note of warning for those in the construction industry who fail to digitalise. Competition is on its way, both from other countries investing heavily in BIM and from new entrants to the sector whether it’s the tech giants of today or the startups of tomorrow.
