Centre for Digital Built Britain completed its five-year mission and closed its doors at the end of September 2022

This website remains as a legacy of the achievements of our five-year foundational journey towards a digital built Britain

Project background

This research network aims to take a user-centric approach to interacting with information, from search and retrieval to browsing and exploration, and to consider the following three dimensions: (1) the lifecycle of information, from its creation, delivery, capture, preservation, management, automation, retrieval, and reuse; (2) the whole and extended asset lifecycle from concept design, through operation, to service delivery and use; (3) increasing asset scale ranging from a single asset to an entire neighbourhood or city.

Outomes

The result of the workshops was a list of capabilities needed to better understand the information management needs of a digital built Britain, particularly with regards to ontologies that enable users to find and use information when needed throughout the lifecycle of built assets. While full consensus was not reached among the Delphi participants, Uniclass-2018 emerged as a standard with beneficial attributes and a large following.
