Research background

My research focuses on technology adoption in construction organizations and project settings. For my PhD at the University of Hong Kong, I examined the sociotechnical interactions in a project-based ‘technology transfer’ attempt. Post-PhD, I investigated how SME contractors were responding to the Hong Kong government’s BIM mandate for public projects.

I completed my PhD on territorial stigma in the regeneration of Middlehaven Middlesbrough within the Department of Geography at Durham University. My research interests include urban marginality, territorial stigma, gentrification, and governance.

Paul joined the Department of Engineering in 1995, initially to work on the development of a yield-line analysis program for concrete bridges. In recent years, Paul's research has been on using new sensing technologies such as wireless sensors or fibre-optic strain measurements for civil infrastucture assets.

Research background

Dr Aftab Jalia studied architecture at the University of Pune in India before pursuing postgraduate degrees at MIT and the University of Cambridge.

He worked for the Aga Khan Trust for Culture in New Delhi and Hyderabad for 5 years on non-profit heritage conservation and environmental development projects. At the Centre for Natural Material Innovation, University of Cambridge, he was a Commonwealth Trust scholar studying building crafts and masonry vaulting techniques that use environmentally responsible materials.

Antiopi Koronaki is an architect engineer working in the Centre for Natural Material Innovation. Her research explores the potential of engineered timber in off-site manufactured school buildings in the UK. She holds a PhD from the University of Bath on the optimisation of large-scale structures for construction.
