Centre for Digital Built Britain completed its five-year mission and closed its doors at the end of September 2022

This website remains as a legacy of the achievements of our five-year foundational journey towards a digital built Britain

While digital technology is springing up in the private rented sector and potentially providing various benefits, there is still a trust barrier when it comes to tenants sharing their data. Data from the private rented sector has historically been lacking, but the rise of digital technology in this sector means there is a new resource for understanding this part of the housing landscape.

Outcomes

This project explores the use of digital technology in private rented accommodation. It considers the application of digital technology in three areas: access to properties, management of properties and lived experience.

Method

Literature review

Interviews

Next steps

While the technology discussed in this paper is relatively easy to implement, further work would be needed on building trust between tenants and the makers and operators of the digital tools that hold their data.
