Centre for Digital Built Britain completed its five-year mission and closed its doors at the end of September 2022

This website remains as a legacy of the achievements of our five-year foundational journey towards a digital built Britain

Background

This report describes the uses of BIM technologies and implementation of BIM processes, examples of its benefits and some of the main lessons learned from BIM implementation during Project Capella, which forms part of the University’s Biomedical Campus.

Outcomes

In this project, the use of BIM supported structural analysis of pre-cast components contributed to faster construction. 3D models were used on-site for health and safety of employees on site. In the operational phase, the University will link the facilities management system to a record model, making maintenance and operation of the facility more efficient. BIM will assist short- and long-term planning and decision-making.
